Spalted beech platter
This is from a very special piece of wood - a 'crotch piece' of beech, that is where two branches meet. In addition it has a small amount of 'spalting' - colour from fungal growth. No need to worry though, it's quite dead now, leaving a beautiful highlight within the grain. It measures 29cm across and 3.5 cm deep. Finished in multiple coats of Danish oil giving a satin glow. You could use it for sweets, nuts or keys....but I think it's too nice to cover up and would look great as a table centrepiece or on the wall.
